What this site does
WoodMeasure is a free collection for planning materials, cutting stock, and checking woodworking dimensions. Formula-based tools include worked examples. Cut optimizers explain their heuristics and report parts that do not fit.
Calculation methods
Tools use explicit geometry, unit conversions, and mathematical models. One board foot is 144 cubic inches. Conversions use 25.4 mm per inch, 0.3048 m per foot, and 0.002359737216 m³ per board foot.
Density, movement coefficients, and elastic modulus are user inputs. Sample values demonstrate the model; they are not verified species ratings. Use material data that matches your actual product and conditions.
Cutting layouts
The sheet solver compares fifteen guillotine-style arrangements. It favors fewer unplaced parts, fewer sheets, and then a larger reusable offcut. The linear solver uses best-fit decreasing. Neither proves the global optimum.
Scope of results
Material estimators do not inspect defects. Shelf sag is an immediate elastic estimate, not a strength rating. Stair results are geometry, not a building-code review. Door and drawer dimensions depend on entered clearances and the actual hardware.
