How to use the cabinet door calculator
- Measure the opening at several points and use the dimension appropriate to the actual cabinet.
- Choose overlay or inset. The allowance field means overlay per outside edge or inset clearance per outside edge.
- Choose one or two doors. For a pair, set the gap between the doors.
The formula
Overlay size = opening + 2 × overlay; inset size = opening − 2 × edge gap. Paired width = (total width − center gap) ÷ 2.
Worked example
A 600 × 720 mm opening, 15 mm overlay, and two doors with a 2 mm center gap produces two doors measuring 314 × 750 mm.
Before you measure and cut
This calculates finished rectangular slab dimensions. It does not calculate rail, stile, or panel joinery.
For inset work, a 15 mm default overlay is not an appropriate gap: enter your chosen fitting clearance after changing the door style.
Frequently asked questions
Does this size my hinges?
No. Hinges have specific overlay, cup-bore, and clearance requirements. Check the hinge manufacturer’s dimensions.
What about a center stile?
Measure each opening separately for doors fitted to a center stile. The paired-door mode assumes one continuous opening.
