How to use the timber volume calculator
- Enter actual width and height in centimeters.
- Enter the length in meters and the number of matching members.
- Read total solid volume. Repeat for each distinct timber size in a mixed order.
The formula
Volume (m³) = width (cm) × height (cm) ÷ 10,000 × length (m) × quantity
Worked example
Six 15 × 20 cm timbers, each 4 m long, contain 0.72 m³. Each timber contributes 0.12 m³.
Before you measure and cut
Centimeters and millimeters are easily confused. A 150 mm section is 15 cm, not 150 cm.
Volume does not determine the structural grade or capacity of a beam. This tool only measures material quantity.

Does it include waste or treatment?
No. It reports the geometric volume of the entered pieces. Add allowances separately for your order.
