How to use the wood finish coverage calculator
- Add all faces and edges you intend to finish.
- Enter the number of coats and the coverage stated for your product and method.
- Choose an allowance, then round up to available container sizes.
The formula
Liters = area × coat count ÷ coverage per liter × (1 + allowance ÷ 100)
Worked example
A 12 m² surface receiving three coats at 12 m²/L needs 3 L before allowance, or 3.3 L with 10% extra.
Before you measure and cut
End grain and porous surfaces often absorb finish differently from smooth faces. A test area gives a better project-specific estimate.
Use a separate calculation if the first coat has a different coverage rate from later coats.
